How to read an IVF quotation

Compare scope, additional items, payment stages and cancellation terms before comparing totals.

A planning notebook

Identify the service and payment recipient

Check the institution, clinician, currency, quotation date and validity. Medical fees, coordination, accommodation, transport and third-party services may have different providers.

Compare the same scope

Identify whether monitoring, retrieval, standard fertilisation, ICSI, anaesthesia, culture, freezing and transfer are included, and how many times each service is covered.

Medication, testing and storage

Ask how medication quantities are charged, whether PGT-related biopsy, sample transport and testing are included, and when annual storage starts. Future use of frozen eggs has additional steps and costs.

Cancellation or additional treatment

Before payment, obtain the settlement rules for a cancelled cycle, postponement, no usable eggs, no transferable embryos and additional procedures.

Use the budget tool as a checklist

Adjust the relevant items, then request a personal written quotation. The tool does not decide which procedures you need and does not include all treatment or travel costs.

IVF quotation checklist

Before comparing totals, match the scope and charging units. Ask the provider to clarify missing items in writing.

Four checks before payment

  1. Who receives payment? Identify the quotation issuer, contracting provider and account holder. Are medical, laboratory and coordination fees separate?
  2. When is each payment due? Identify the service covered and request itemised invoices and receipts.
  3. What happens if the plan changes? Ask for revised costs and your confirmation before additional items.
  4. How is cancellation settled? Ask separately about cancellation before treatment, after medication, no usable embryos after retrieval, delay and no transfer. Which incurred costs are non-refundable?

What sits outside the medical budget?

Budget separately for travel, accommodation, meals, a companion, time off and booking changes. Ask your insurer about coverage and allow for reviews, delays or extra visits.

This is a list of questions, not confirmation that the provider offers these items, charges in these units or promises refunds. The written quotation and contract govern.
